The Emerald Mermaid

By Louise Webster

Moonbeams wake the darkened sea,

Set the emerald mermaid free

From chains inside an ocean cave

To swim up to the breaking waves.

She bathes beneath the silver stars,

Dreams to reach the distant shore,

Ready to forsake a tail,

Grow long legs, shed turquoise scales,

Then run across the sandy beach

To chase a dream yet out of reach.
